Our brains are our body's most powerful and mysterious organ. The thought of “losing it” mentally due to aging isn’t pleasant. Failing brains bring memory loss and reduced cognitive ability. If you’ve ever known someone with Alzheimer’s, you know how the loss of memory also causes the personality to unravel.
About 33% of all people age 60 and over have measurable memory problems. And the medical community estimates that by the time we reach age 85, fifty percent of us will have Alzheimer’s disease (AD). This is NOT a pretty picture, but there ARE ways to fight back against both cognitive decline and AD.
Stress and Cognitive Decline
Age is not the only cause of reduced brain capacity. Stress is now clearly known to kill brain cells. This happens regardless of age - whether you're 20 or 90. The below picture is a microscopic photo of brains cells dying from stress. There's evidence that high levels of stress hormones cause the hippocampus – a small brain organ that's crucial to memory – to physically atrophy and shrink.

Dying Neurons
One way to reduce brain damage from stress is to meditate on a regular basis. This also increases the activity of your pineal gland – the source of a natural hormone (melatonin) that regulates your sleep. This also helps slow the aging process, and enough of an increase in melatonin can actually turn back the clock.
The problem with meditation is that truly good effects begin to occur only after years of daily practice. And very few of us today have time for a daily hour and a half meditation session.
The Self-Esteem Factor
And there’s more at work here than just aging and stress. It's now now proven by many research studies that personality plays an important role in protecting our mental powers. This may shock you, but a major 20-year study proved beyond doubt that low self-esteem can cause your brain to shrink as much as 20 percent.

Goals are powerful way to succeed in life.
What keeps you from achieving your goals? Other people? Probably not! Most of the time it's our internal voice that says we can't or don't deserve it -- our own voice.
The reality is -- most of our self-talk is often negative. It seems that 90% of the time people don't write down their goals and dreams because: (1) They think they don't deserve it, (2) They think they're incapable of reaching that goal or dream, or (3) They think its just not possible.
My friends, it all comes down to one thing: Do you believe in yourself? On a scale from 1 to ten, how much would you rate your level of self-esteem? Your self-esteem has a huge impact on the goals you set, and the number of goals you will achieve.
1. I don't deserve it anyway!
This has to do with your feelings of self-worth. "Do I deserve it, do I have the permission to be a millionaire?" "Do I have permission to remain centered, instead of stressed and depressed" Feel your answers in your entire mind and body.
2. I am not capable!
This concerns the plan you've created to achieve your goal. "Am I capable of taking appropriate action -- of following the steps I've set up to succeed?"
Once you've answered "Yes," you'll want to integrate this in your body and mind. You need to know it cognitively AND emotionally. You are more than just a cognitive mind -- you have emotions and feelings your whole self needs to accept.
3. It's not possible!
If this is your belief, its time to look at the path you've set out to reach your goal. "Am I convinced that it is possible to achieve my goal with these appropriate steps?" If your path seems long or difficult, you'll need to build a strong belief it's possible to follow that path to success.
To reach your goal, you first need to transform any limiting beliefs. You can do this! Your limiting beliefs were learned through your life experiences. And anything that's learned can be unlearned, restructured and changed.
Three BASIC ELEMENTS of Success
There are three basic elements to reach A desired outcome: You, your plan or path, and the goal itself.
The belief you will develop for each element will form a winning belief system that will empower you in achieving anything you really want in life. This is how to build unstoppable confidence and self-esteem. When we talk about the Law of Attraction, it all comes down to beliefs. When we talk about dreams, goals, independence, freedom - it all comes down to beliefs.
If you truly believe in yourself, you can do ANYTHING!

Brain Teaser Answer
It's no accident that telephone numbers are usually no more than seven digits long. Our “working memory” - a very short-term form of memory - stores ideas just long enough for us to understand them. Our working memory only holds an average maximum seven digits. The seven digit telephone number allows you to look up a phone number and remember it just long enough to dial (answer c is correct.)
