If you want to tap into your natural genius, there are many aspects of "genius" to consider.
Probably the least understood expression of our human intelligence is our emotional intelligence -- often referred to as "EQ."
An emotion is the end result of a feeling. And although it's easy enough to recognize when you're feeling something -- it is often less clear just what a feeling actually IS.
According to Webster's Dictionary, a feeling is *a partly mental, partly physical, response marked by pleasure, pain, attraction, or repulsion.*
But this says nothing about your response to a feeling! Suppose two men each buy a used car. And each of them has a similar experience -- the muffler falls off two days later.
Both men will obviously *feel* upset.
But suppose one man expresses that feeling as an intense emotion (an outbreak of hot rage), whole the other man expresses his feeling as an intense determination to resolve the problem with the car dealer.
What are Emotions?
Your emotions are how you actually *respond* to a feeling of pain, pleasure, attraction or repulsion.
Basically emotions are physiologically-based responses to your feelings. But these physiological responses are NOT the same from one person to the next. Your emotional responses are actually as unique as your fingerprints!
Emotional responses vary from one person to the next because they are actually *learned responses.*
No man comes into life feeling internal rage if someone notices his unusually large nose. His rage may well date back to age seven when he first entered school -- and was teased beyond his capacity to endure!
Suppose he was also small for his age. The "feeling" of rage might then have been there, but his safest emotional expression might have been to seem indifferent. As an adult, this may evolve into an automatic "biting sarcasm" toward anyone who might question him.
It's in the learned *responses* to our feelings where people differ. If that same boy had been big for his age, he might have developed an entirely different emotional expression for his feelings of sensitivity about the size of his nose.
How Emotions Impact Your Success
Most of today's psychologists and success mentors are convinced that your emotional intelligence, or EQ, is a far better predictor of your life success than your rational intelligence, or IQ.
We have all known high IQ people who are not living up to their potential. But how many passionate high EQ people do you know who are not living up to their potential -- or at least stretching out toward it?
So what do I really mean by passion?
In terms of life success -- passion is an *intense emotion* directed at achieving something that is either desired, or unwanted. For example: A passionate desire to escape poverty -- or a passionate desire to achieve financial independence.
Note that the goal to escape poverty, and the goal to attain financial independence, both seem to be directed at the same end result. But are they truly the same?
How the *Law of Attraction* Works
Both neuroscientists and behavioral scientists have clearly demonstrated that when you have a strong emotion about something -- you physically strengthen your brain's neural pathways dedicated to that something.
This is the neurological basis of what is commonly referred to as *the Law of Attraction.*
A scientific version of this ancient law may be stated thus: You *attract* what you intensely focus your emotion on -- as in doing so, you build strong neural networks directly related to that desired thing.
Here's a sample scenario. Suppose you're buying a Ford Explorer SUV. You select what you feel is the most exciting and unique color for the vehicle -- deep red. But when you hit the road with your new red Explorer, you suddenly see one after another of the exact same model -- also red.
You'd never before noticed that red is actually a very common color for the Explorer!
What happened is that your new red Explorer has created a dynamic neural awareness. Your neurons have been sensitized to notice similar SUV's because of your excitement (intense emotion) about *your* new Explorer!
Did you "attract" these red Ford Explorers? Of course not! But you certainly ARE now very aware of their presence.
The Power of Positive Emotions
Back to our comparison of the goal to *escape* poverty -- vs the goal to *attain* financial independence.
Although both goals look toward the same end result -- they deal with quite different emotions. The desire to escape poverty is fueled by fear, while the desire to attain financial freedom is fueled by positive attraction.
While both could possibly take you to the same end goal -- the *Law of Attraction* predicts quite a different experience along the path leading toward the goal.
If you build neural pathways based on doubt and fear, you will sensitize yourself to events or conditions that might relate to your fears and self-doubt.
What if you instead build neural pathways based on strong feelings of self-confidence and anticipation? You will then find yourself recognizing opportunities leading to your goal -- just as you suddenly noticed all those red Explorers.
What you focus intense emotion upon tends to attract your attention to more of the same. This law is neither negative nor positive. It just is!
By far the best way to approach goals is with positive, passionate desire. Discover your passion, what you *really* want, and pour intense emotion into your pursuit!

Wine & Dark Chocolate
Reduce Heart Disease!

I recently ran across an interesting article in the "British Medical Journal."
A group of British scientists are now telling us to drink wine and eat dark chocolate to lengthen our life, and reduce our risk of heart disease.
Moderation is called for, of course, but here's the essence of their report:
The scientists have announced the discovery of what they call the "Polymeal" -- a collection of ingredients they feel will cut the risk of heart (cardiovascular) disease by 76%, and significantly increase your life expectancy.
Results of dining on the Polymeal were most dramatic for men, who are projected to live on average 6.6 years longer than those not eating in the recommended fashion. These men will also live for nine years longer without succumbing to heart disease -- and those that do, will suffer it for fewer years of their lives.
Women eating the Polymeal will also live significantly longer -- nearly five years more than women not eating in this manner. They will also put off the onset of heart disease for eight years longer.
The recommended Polymeal includes: wine, fish, dark chocolate, fruits and vegetables, almonds and garlic -- all eaten on a daily basis (but only four times a week for fish).
The scientists reviewed the medical literature on how much each ingredient cuts heart disease, blood pressure or cholesterol levels -- they found, for example, that 150ml wine daily reduces heart disease by 32%. Then they worked out the combined effect of the ingredients, and calculated the potential effect across an ongoing study of American adults.
And here's good news fornon-drinkers: A study at Boston University's medical school by Dr. Jane Freedman indicates that non-alcoholic grape juice is also heart-friendly, and also raises levels of HDL ("good") cholesterol.
