Permit me to pose an important question: What are YOU doing today that is creating your future?

Oh I know. You are out making a living, paying the bills, maybe raising a family or building a business, trying to climb the corporate ladder, or perhaps just trying to hold it together in today's challenging economic environment.

But that is NOT where my question is directed. The question is: What are you DOING with your life that is creating your future?

Are you doing things TODAY that will keep you fully engaged in life? Are you doing what has REAL meaning to you? The YOU of today will be the YOU of your future, unless you are taking steps to "dynamize" your life!

The Comfort Zone Trap
I know – this question is not polite. But ARE you? Or are you making a choice to remain in your "comfort zone" -- no matter how uncomfortable it is.

True, the comfort zone takes little or no effort or change to sustain. Your brain loves habit, and it will gladly keep you exactly where you are today.

So next year you will be in basically the same place—just one year older. And the same is true for 5, 10 or 20 years from now.

Does This Shake You Up
You may feel a little angry, as though I am saying this to shake you up. And that is true. I am. The world is radically turning and changing around you, and unless you are investing in your own change and growth and passionate dreams, you ARE being left behind. That IS a fact.

  • I might fail or lose my shirt
  • My mate would not understand or support me
  • I cannot (do not choose to) make a change
  • The times are too tough today

Are You Time Traveling?

What are you doing when you're not doing anything? This will surprise you!

When we perform mental tasks -- adding numbers, comparing shapes, identifying faces -- different areas of our brains become active. Brain scans show such active areas as brightly colored squares on an otherwise dull gray background.

But researchers have recently discovered that when these areas of our brains light up, other areas go dark, creating what is being called "the dark network."

The "Dark Network"
The dark network (which includes regions in the frontal, parietal and medial temporal lobes) is OFF when we seem to be mentally focused, but comes ON when we are unfocused.

If you climbed into a brain scan machine and lay there quietly waiting for instructions, the dark network would be as active as a beehive. But the moment your instructions arrived and your task began, the network would fall silent.

When we appear to be doing nothing, we are clearly doing something. But what? It seems the answer is we are traveling through time.

According to a National Sleep Foundation poll, as life becomes more demanding, the average nightly sleep is suffering in all segments of the population.

“Power naps” could provide one healthy answer.

A whole body of research shows that a midday snooze will increase your productivity and mental health, alertness and mood, and even  your short term memory  And interestingly, a cup of coffee can actually enhance your short snooze.

Sound odd?

Here's how it works: Caffeine takes about 20 minutes to a half-hour to kick in -- providing just enough time for a perfect nap. The benefits are twofold: you've rested and you're also ready to go when you wake. The British Transportation Department tells drivers to combat driver’s fatigue: "Stop, drink two cups of coffee or a highly caffeinated drink, then take a short 20 minute POWER NAP."

Many report that 2:00 or 3:00 in the afternoon is the ideal nap hour—late enough to fit into your natural siesta zone, but early enough that it will not interfere with your nighttime sleep. To avoid grogginess, a good nap length is somewhere between 10 and 30 minutes.
