Develop a
Beginner's Mind

To increase your financial well being you have to start with one very important decision --What are you offering to give in return for achieving your goal?
One of your most important assets is your ability to creatively determine what you have to offer that other people will pay for.
This is the ultimate source of financial well being and prosperity, unless you manage to win the lottery or inherit money, of course.
Cultivate a "Beginner's Mind"
Your mind is infinitely more subtle and creative than you realize! And sometimes it pays to "sneak up on it" when trying to solve a problem like deciding what you have to offer to increase your financial well being.
Here's an idea -- approaching this question with a totally open and flexible "beginner's mind."
Suppose, for example, you are an expert in vertical take-off and landing aircraft. And suppose you are looking for a new, creative approach to hovering.
Obviously you could drag out technical texts and the latest journals in your field and pour over them. That might be a good idea. But suppose you instead chose to be a "beginner," and assume that anything is possible regarding hovering.
I wonder what insight might come to you if you asked yourself how that speck of dust weightlessly floats in the air above your desk?
Is it lighter than the air? No? And yet it floats and hovers. Since you are a "beginner," can you assume your aircraft could do the same thing? Could it defy gravity and somehow float on currents of air?
Or pick some common assumption in your field - one "everyone" believes like "you must have a subscriber list to be successful on the web."
What it they are all wrong? What if the exact opposite is true. What would this mean? How can you apply it?
Do some "beginner's mind" brainstorming, and don't reject your "crazy" ideas. Reflect on them!
Your Most Valuable Asset
The greatest source of wealth you have is right there in your skull. And remember -- neuroscience has now proven our brains never stop growing and changing, regardless of our age!
What you need to become truly prosperous is a flexible, active, creative brain, and the courage to commit to your ideas. What you have between your ears is far more valuable than your bank account. Money is always out there looking for ideas.
Your personal ability to be flexible and unlock your creativity is the true key to financial well being. And along the way you're going to find you also feel happier and more fulfilled.

How to Be Happier
A Quantum-Self Science Report
Harvard's Dr. Ben-Shahar, a positive psychologist, feels: "The question should not be whether you are happy, but what you can do to become happier." The latest neuroscience research provides some clues.
Let’s explore the four key concepts of Dr. Ben-Shahar's statement from the vantage point of neuro-psychology.
"YOU?” According to latest scientific understanding, what we experience as "mind," our awareness, emerges from the physical brain. So, if we want to refine our minds, the place to start is by understanding and training our brains.
Scientists have shown how even adult brains can continue to generate new neurons and literally rewire themselves. Remind yourself that YOU are the only person who can take action and evaluate what works for "you". And "you" means the mind that emerges from your own, very personal, unique, and constantly evolving, brain that only "you" can train.
“CAN?” The Spanish neuroscientist Santiago Ramon y Cajal said: "Every man can, if he so desires, become the sculptor of his own brain." Each of us has immense potential. However becoming happier requires attention, intention, and actual practice.
Every second, you choose what to pay attention to. You can focus on the negative and train your brain to think negative. You can watch TV five hours in a row and thereby train your brain to be passive.
“DO.” Brain cells that fire together, wire together. Our brains are composed of billions of neurons, and each can have thousand of connections to other neurons. Any thing you do in life creates a specific constellation of neurons.
Visualize a million neurons firing at when you order your next cappuccino. The more cappuccinos you order, the more those neurons will fire together, and the stronger the connections between them become. This is what creates automatic behaviors, called habits. This has enormous implications: Whatever we do is training your brain.
“HAPPIER.” Being "happy" is subjective. No scientist could look at you, read some instrument, and measure your happiness. But there are ways to measure and train being "happier." For example, stress and anxiety are key obstacles to happiness. Appreciating the beauties of life often, and developing positive emotions, build your ability to be happy.
Modern neuroscience research shows how emotional self-regulation helps us learn to identify our mental states as they happen (stress, anxiety, appreciation & positive emotions) – and learn to intervene and "regulate" our response as we wish.
CONCLUSION. Let’s combine the respective words from the opening quotes. "The question should not be whether you are happy, but what you can do to become happier" and "Every man can, if he so desires, become the sculptor of his own brain."
In short, you can sculpt (train) your brain to become happier. Which brings us back to "you." What are YOU doing today to build your "happy" brain muscles...

Fake Your Way
to Happiness

Can you steer your life toward happiness by simply counting your blessings? Maybe! One recent researcher found that people who pause each day to reflect on the positive aspects of their lives (for example: their health, friends, family, education, freedom) are more likely to experience heightened well-being.
Or if you’re feeling a little down – maybe you can “fake” your way into happiness! You may have more control over your mood than you think. According to other new research, people who choose to act more outgoing or assertive actually improve their outlook on life.
In three complementary studies, William Fleeson and colleagues tracked the moods of more than 100 students. In the first study, 46 students kept diaries for approximately two weeks. They reported feeling happier and more positive when they acted outgoing. When acting shy and reserved, their feelings were just the opposite.
The second study looked at long-term effects of acting like an extrovert. Once again, the 10-week study revealed that the 57 students in this portion of the study were happier when they acted more extroverted.
In the final study, 47 students were told to act either like an extrovert or introvert during a discussion group. Participants who were energetic and assertive had more fun and enjoyed the group while the passive and shy ones were unhappy in the situation.
Fleeson and colleagues suggest that personality influences happiness -- and that to some extent, we have control over our personalities. Individuals may have the potential to contribute directly to their own well-being by changing their behavior, says Fleeson.
