WHO is Telling You
That Negative Stuff?

Who is telling you it's NOT possible to really achieve your dream life? There is no voice more powerful than this...

You've heard this voice before! Maybe the first time you were too young to really understand what was being said, but the emotion behind it was unforgettable. Then maybe you heard it again as the adults in your world complained about how hard it is to get ahead.

And NOW? Those old emotionally-charged messages are cemented in your brain and have become personal beliefs like, "I'll never get ahead" ... "Why try and fail again?" ... I'll always be fat, so why bother to diet" ... "Why knock myself out...I won't get that promotion anyway" ... "I'm not smart enough to do that" ... Often this talk takes the form of critical negative messages and assumptions in your brain, and ensures that your life, your relationship, or your business activities STAY in a dead end rut.

Natural Brilliance

The more you challenge your brain, the better it functions – regardless of your education, age, or natural intelligence! Challenge it enough, and you can ramp up your own natural brilliance.

Researchers agree that our mental edge starts to drop off in the mid to late 30s. BUT actively using your mind to accomplish something challenging can increase the number of connections between your brain cells.

WHY is this important?

The density of your neuron-to-neuron connections is a major key to having a sharp mind. Renowned brain researcher Marion Diamond was the first to discover this in her laboratory research, and confirmed this also was the secret to Einstein's amazing brilliance.

Dr. Diamond tells us that the brain can change and grow at any age. She has found that mature brains even have an advantage, as highly developed neurons respond better to intellectual enrichment than less developed (younger) ones do.

What is Intellectual Enrichment?
Intellectual enrichment comes in many forms. Three widely researched methods are to begin a study of music, learn to play an instrument, or learn a second (or even third) language. Learning to play Bridge or Chess also rank high, as does attending classes in a new interest that stretches.

Does Exercise Help?
Although exercise will not make you more brilliant, it IS very good for your brain. Brisk walking increases blood circulation so more oxygen and glucose can reach your brain. Several studies have shown that cerebral blood vessels also grow in response to more strenuous exercise, providing the brain with far more oxygen.

A Wake Up Exercise
Here is a simple exercise that can help boost your mental focus. Although this will not build your mind power, it will increase your mental alertness. In the morning while you are still in bed, or in the afternoon at your desk, move all your toes up and down several times. This activates nerves that stimulate your brain and internal organs. Your whole body may feel pleasantly energized.

A Genuine Brain Building Exercise
Here’s a “do it now” exercise that will immediately develop your mind power by creating new physical neural connections: Switch the hand you’re using to control your computer mouse and begin to use the hand you normally avoid.  If you immediately feel uncomfortable and awkward, that’s a good sign that your brain is struggling to learn a new skill.

You can expand this to other everyday routines such as getting out of bed on the opposite side, holding your brush or toothbrush with the other hand, driving a different route to the store or work, etc.

Good Stress vs. Bad Stress
All stress is NOT bad. A certain amount is necessary to keep your brain "on its toes." But too much stress, or stress that becomes chronic, actually DECREASES your mind power.

Why? Because the "stress response" pushes your mental focus down into the older, more primitive, portions of your brain that are responsible for survival. This is why you can't think straight or find your car keys when you are rushed -- a direct example of the stress response in action. Plus stress is now know to actually kill brain cells!

So whatever else you decide to do, daily stress management is essential to having a sharp brain!!!

The Benefits of
Eating Nuts

Many research studies now point to several benefits of eating nuts – including a reduced risk of heart disease.

Back when “fat-free” was the smart choice, many of us began to avoid nuts. But today nuts are getting kudos as a smart and healthy food.

One six-year study showed this heart disease benefit in 31,208 study subjects. The results showed that women and men who ate nuts at least four times a week had 51% fewer heart attacks than those who ate nuts less often. This benefit could not be explained by other factors, including good overall good health habits.

Scientists don’t know exactly why nuts are so healthful. One idea is that they lower blood cholesterol levels, including LDL (“bad”) cholesterol, either by displacing other, harmful foods or by lowering cholesterol directly.

Keep in mind that a one-ounce serving of nuts has about 180 calories. For example, you can substitute one ounce of nuts for 180 calories worth of less-healthful foods like sugary foods or fatty snacks. You might want to try chopping up nuts and adding them to rice dishes, casseroles, salads and stir-fries, and baked goods.
